How to Enroll
Use Our Website
Families interested in The FreedomHill Cooperative can gain a substantial understanding of student directed learning and democratic education by referring to the recommended readings and articles on the Resource Page. By referring to the Events Page, families can choose a time to attend an informal meeting or tour as well as meet other families and volunteers involved in The FreedomHill Cooperative.
Visit the FreedomHill Cooperative
After gaining a preliminary understanding, parents are encouraged to set up a time to visit. The first visit will usually last about 2 hours. During the visit, families will receive a tour and a one on one meeting where they can ask specific questions and learn more about the program. This also gives the parents and their children a chance to observe and interact with currently enrolled students as well as staff and other parents, to gain a clearer understanding of our philosophy and practices. After the initial visit, families that are interested in joining The FreedomHill Cooperative would set up a visiting week.
Set Up a Visiting Week
Visiting week is a very important opportunity for both the family and The FreedomHill Cooperative to determine whether or not the program would be a positive experience for all involved. It provides a chance to compare the family’s educational philosophy with the philosophy of The FreedomHill Cooperative and to explore the potential student’s comfort level in the new environment. During the visiting week, the child will participate as if he or she is a full-time member of The FreedomHill Cooperative community, freely using the facility and materials as well as participating in various activities and following the rules- including being held accountable in the daily Judicial Meetings. At the end of the week, the family will meet with The Admissions Committee to discuss their experience and determine if The FreedomHill Cooperative would be a good fit.
Officially Enrolling in the FreedomHill Cooperative
At the end of the visiting week, the family may officially join The FreedomHill Cooperative. At that time, the family will complete and return the membership contract with either a deposit or the first payment for membership, depending on what time of the year a family is joining. For example if a family registers in March for the following school season, the deposit would be due. If a family enrolls mid-year, a pro-rated membership fee will be determined and payment will be due. All other mandatory forms will be provided and will need to be returned before the child can begin attendance at The FreedomHill Cooperative.
