Expansion Project Fund
Planning for growth: The FreedomHill Expansion Project Fund
Currently
Currently The FreedomHill Cooperative rents a farmhouse on a 32-acre horse farm in lower Frederick County. This is an ideal location for serving present and future members in both Frederick and Montgomery counties. Our existing site is also close to 270 and easily accessible to points north and south. This location has served us very well. We have created a base of families that are dedicated to the idea of democratic education and giving children the freedom and space to self-direct their learning.
Future
The goal for the future is to expand The FreedomHill Cooperative to include a full-fledged independent school as well as our existing homeschooling cooperative. To reach that goal we need more room than our current location offers. The ideal setting would include a 4,500 square foot expansive, inviting and green building with plenty of land for outdoor exploration, organic farming, and raising farm animals.
Plans for Expansion
The FreedomHill Cooperative needs to address two very ambitious goals simultaneously. The first is to raise funds to provide the financial support needed to make a down payment on a property. The second is to identify a piece of land- 18 acres or more- in Frederick County that is zoned agricultural. Depending on the property’s specific location, it will most likely be necessary to obtain a Special Exception from Frederick County prior to purchasing the property.
